Semester Programs in London

Join students from all over the world on one of Sotheby’s Institute of Art’s unique semester courses. These are full-time fifteen-week programs, some of which can also be taken on a part-time basis. Different subjects are offered in the autumn and spring semesters, but each combines academic study with an insight into art and the professional art world. Semester students immerse themselves in the rich artistic resources available in London.

Designed for those who have a strong vocational or professional interest in a specific subject, these intensive programs can also provide the necessary foundation for students who are applying to the Postgraduate Diploma and MA programs at the Institute.
The Institute currently offers six Semester Programs: Art and Business, Internship Program: Art Business Foundations and Placement, Art Museums, Galleries and Curating, Asian Art  and its Markets, Decorative Art and Design, and Foundations of Western Art.

Credits and Validation
The programs are validated by The University of Manchester one of the UK’s leading universities. Students who complete one full-time program successfully are awarded 60 University of Manchester undergraduate credits.

London Study Abroad
Students who wish to study abroad may transfer credit from these Semester programs to their home institution. Transfer of credit to other colleges and universities is always at the discretion of the accepting institution. Therefore, applicants should confirm the feasibility of credit transfer with their faculty advisors in advance of registration at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

Colleges and universities in North America have accepted 16 credits at the undergraduate level and 12 postgraduate credits per semester program. European students may be eligible to transfer 30 credits per semester program under the European Credit Transfer system.

Admission to the Program
There are no formal admission requirements  except a good level of English language competence (a minimum IELTS score of 6.0). Applicants are interviewed in person or by phone. Our students are of all ages and come from a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds. The international make-up of the student body at Sotheby’s Institute of Art generates a rich and dynamic learning environment. Although no prior knowledge is required, the Institute offers places to motivated students with appropriate experience and/or ambitions, and with a passion for art and the art world.
