Since its founding by Sotheby’s Auction House in 1969, Sotheby’s Institute-London has pioneered the education of arts professionals. The Institute currently offers five Master’s Programs all validated by The University of Manchester, part of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities.
Sotheby’s Institute of Art-London offers Master’s degrees in Art Business, Contemporary Art, Fine and Decorative Art and Design, Modern and Contemporary Asian Art, and Art Logistics. All five programs are enhanced by a shared core curriculum, Navigating the Art World, which provides a powerful set of professional skills and critical understandings for our students to mobilize at the completion of their degrees. This special part of the curriculum brings students from all areas of study together for a common introduction to current issues in the art world – its structures and organizations – as well as its essential skills and protocols.
Our London campus is based in historic Bedford Square, right in the cosmopolitan city center. Site visits, case studies, workshops, and privileged access to premier art institutions with leading experts, in and outside of London, provide students with further information and context, as well as real-world examples and experiences.

The flexible structure within each Master’s program allows students to explore a wide range of subjects and customize their own specializations by choosing two elective units from across the Institute’s offerings. Students may also choose to develop concentrations by choosing two elective units in the areas of Contemporary Design, Photography, East Asian Art and Curating.
Through our Work Placement elective, students will have an opportunity to undertake a period of work experience as part of their Master’s Degree. This enables them to gain valuable experience in an art world sector of their choice.
Postgraduate Diploma Option
A two-semester Postgraduate Diploma is available to students who complete the required coursework for an MA Degree program but who do not wish to write a Master's Degree Dissertation.
