Ruth Peltason

Ruth Peltason is a respected author, editor, jewelry historian, and lecturer. Her career spans the arts, publishing, and luxury goods businesses, where she has worked with distinguished critics, high-end collectors, leading arts organizations, auction houses, and museums. Over the years, she has lectured on jewelry all over the country, including at museums and auction houses. She was with Abrams Publishers for 16 years, where she was Senior Editor, Director of Design & Style Books, and today runs Bespoke Books, focusing on the visual arts. She created the David Webb archives and in 2015 in association with Van Cleef & Arpels helped launch L’École, School of Jewelry Arts in the U.S. 

Her books on jewelry include The Art of David Webb: Jewelry and Culture; Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry; David Webb: The Quintessential American Jeweler; and Living Jewels; she was a contributor to Diamonds Across Time; Simply Brilliant: Artist-Jewelers of the 1960s and 1970s; and Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels. She is the author of the forthcoming Jewelry Beyond Beauty: The Power of Design, 1960 to 1979. In addition, she has edited leading books on fine art, architecture, design, fashion, film, photography, and the decorative arts. She has written for numerous publications, including Air Mail, Antiques, Vanity Fair, 1stdibs, Sotheby’s, the Natural Diamond Council, and the ASJH (American Society of Jewelry Historians).
