Sotheby’s Institute of Art and the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) have partnered in the launch of an annual research award for students writing on the subjects of art collecting and the art market.
The research award presents a unique opportunity to inspire and recognize a deserving student while also promoting the creative use of art scholarship and information resources. The Sotheby's Institute of Art Research Award for a paper on collecting and the art market is awarded annually to recognize excellence in a student paper or digital art history project on a topic relevant to the art market. Topics may include but will not be limited to the sale, collecting, and provenance of artworks, and historical or contemporary factors and trends that affect the business of art and connoisseurship.
Participants can enter the competition if they are undergraduate – or recently graduated – students, and papers will be reviewed by a dedicated ARLIS/NA committee. Topics may include but will not be limited to the sale, collecting and provenance of artworks, and historical or contemporary factors and trends that affect the business of art and connoisseurship.
Prizes include:
• $3,000 to the research award winner
• $2,000 to the sponsoring library/institution
The winner will also get the opportunity to attend the annual ARL IS/NA conference in March 2016, where they will be announced to the committee and participants.
