Felix Kwok is a prominent auctioneer, modern and contemporary art expert, curator, and educator. In 2024, Observer, New York, recognized him in their "Business of Art Power List- The Most Influential People in Art," and in 2022, he was named one of '40 under 40, Asia-Pacific' by Apollo art magazine, London.
Felix graduated from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Hong Kong. He began his career in both an international advertising agency and a museum. From 2012, he spent thirteen years at Sotheby's, serving as the Director and Head of Modern Art in Asia from 2020 to 2024. During this time, he focused on internationalizing the Asian art market by introducing Impressionist and Western modern masters' works to Asia. He set numerous auction records, including a world record for Chu Teh-Chun at 230 million, and an Asian record for Picasso at 191 million. He achieved seven of Picasso's eight Asian auction records, four records for Vietnamese artwork, and over a dozen world records for modern and contemporary artists.
In 2021, Felix facilitated the unprecedented collaboration between Sotheby's and international film director Wong Kar Wai, creating the first Asian film NFT auction. He also curated the Wong Kar Wai’s film retrospective auction, causing a sensation at the time. During the Modern Art Evening Auction in 2022, he curated the sale of Sir Run Run Shaw Collection, the legendary Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist. All of the above curated auctions achieved white glove results.
As an auctioneer, Mr. Kwok achieved two of Sotheby's world auction records in Chinese Paintings, including the Five Drunken Princes Returning on Horseback by Yuan Dynasty artist Ren Renfa for HK$306 million in October 2020, and Zhang Daqian’s "Landscape after Wang Ximeng" for HK$370 million in April 2022. In addition, Mr. Kwok is a committed educator of modern art and art market, he is a regular lecturer for Beijing Tsinghua University, The University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
