Max Benavidez currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications at Claremont Graduate University and oversees the Office of Marketing and Communications, which includes web, social media, the alumni magazine, media relations, design services, advertising, video production, and executive communications. He is an Adjunct Professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism where he teaches courses in new media, digital journalism, and public relations. He was the Associate Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications at Claremont McKenna College, a top ten liberal arts college, from 2011 to 2016, and served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications & Senior Counsel at UCLA from 1999 to 2005. He has been published extensively on a wide range of topics such as communications, the arts, public policy, and social media and has authored seven books. He received his B.A. at UCLA and his Ph.D. in New Media and Higher Education at Claremont Graduate University. He was selected as a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. Scholar and traveled to France in the fall of 2016 where he conducted research at major French universities on the intersection of digital media and higher education. He received an Ahmanson Fellowship while completing his doctorate and served as a Resident Scholar at UCLA under a Getty Trust Scholar Grant in 2006. He is also the recipient of a 2008-2010 grant from The Ford Foundation for communications management.
