Carmen Melián is the founder and director of the international arts advisory firm Melián Arts. Previously, she served as Senior Specialist and Director of the Latin American Art Department at Sotheby's New York, and Director of the Nohra Haime Gallery in New York. She has taught Latin American Art in the Appraisal Studies Program at NYU’s School of Professional Studies.
During her time at Sotheby’s, Ms. Melián managed the bi-annual auctions of Latin American Art. The Latin American Art sales cover works of art from fifteen countries produced over the past five hundred years, with annual sales totaling over forty-five million USD. Ms. Melián also worked closely with Sotheby’s Appraisals Department on insurance, donation, and estate tax projects for high-net worth clients; insurance and indemnity projects for museums and other cultural institutions; and on insurance and fair market valuations for corporations.
Ms. Melián is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America.
