Meet Dr Bernard Vere and get an up-close experience of our Master’s program in Fine and Decorative Art and Design as taught in our London campus. This session will include a lecture by Dr Vere and a study visit to a gallery or museum exhibition in London.
Experience what it’s like to be a student in our MA in Fine and Decorative Art and Design through an interactive session with Dr Bernard Vere, Program Director and Senior Lecturer of Fine and Decorative Art at Sotheby’s Institute London campus.
Join Dr Vere for a lecture on modern art to be delivered at the Institute, followed by a study visit to either a gallery or museum exhibition with a focus on Decorative Art and Design. Get a taste of first-hand observation necessary to develop skills to establish (and distinguish between) materials and techniques, modes of production and style of a range of works. Immerse yourself in the wider historical, social, economic and cultural factors which influenced the production of the art works you will see during the visit.
Bernard Vere specializes in art from the late-19th to mid-20th century. His work explores the connection between technological advances and the rise of the metropolis in modernist art, particularly in its implications for the individual subject. Recent research has concentrated on the relationship of sport to art and architecture in the first half of the 20th century. Dr Vere sits on the Executive Steering Committee of the British Association of Modernist Studies and is an elected member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
