Is the art world as global as we think it is? Tony Godfrey has been writing about art since 1978. In 2009 he moved from the UK to Asia, first Singapore and now the Philippines where he continues to teach, write and curate. Is what is happening in the Philippines and other nearby countries different from what is made in Europe? Does the art world work in the same way? How can we best understand or appreciate art from South-east Asia? Tony Godfrey, a previous Director of Sotheby’s Institute, has written several books including Conceptual Art (1998) and Painting Today (2009). Forthcoming publications include a global history of contemporary art, an exhibition catalogue on contemporary art from the Philippines and a monograph on the Chinese painter Ding Yi.
