About the Speaker:
Professor Prowda is an MA, Art Business Faculty member and Art Law Professor at Sotheby’s Institute of Art- NY. She is an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator focused on art law, copyright, entertainment and commercial law. Professor Prowda is the author of numerous publications, including Visual Arts and the Law: A Handbook for Professionals (2013). She is Past Chair of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the NYS Bar Association and Chair of the Fine Arts Committee, as well as a member of the Art Law Committee of the NYC Bar. She is also a leader in the intellectual property field, and has consulted at Sokolow, Dunaud, Mercadier & Carreras in Paris and at World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva. Prior to studying law, she was a reporter in the World Section at Time magazine and a French-English interpreter at the U.S. Department of State. She recently participated in a working group of lawyers to establish a new art tribunal, the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA), based in The Hague. For more information about CAfA, click here.
