Overview

As a major center of the fine arts trade, London attracts international collectors and cultured visitors to discover world-class fine and decorative works of art. London Art Week is established as a key biannual event where participating dealers, galleries, and auction houses clustered in the historic Mayfair and St. James's host a range of exhibitions and talks about the very best tings, drawings, sculpture and objects available on the market, dating from Antiquity to the 21st Century. This course is taking place during the London Art Week and participants will enjoy a full week of lectures and guided visits led by faculty and expert speakers appreciating fine works of art.

This course includes:

  • Expert lectures with time for questions and discussion
  • Special guided visits to the auction house, galleries and dealers in the historic Mayfair and St. James
  • Learning in the Institute's historic Georgian townhouse campus at the heart of Bloomsbury
  • Networking opportunities with faculty and fellow participants
  • Certificate of participation on completion of the course

    Type: Day course (5 consecutive days)
    Dates: June 29 - July 3, 2020
    Times: Monday – Friday; 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    Location: The course will take place at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, 30 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3EE.

    Faculty

    Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe taught full-time at the Sotheby's Institute of Art for 29 years and is now a consultant lecturer. Her areas of expertise are 16th and 17th-century painting and she is also trained as a painting restorer. Combining this experience with her knowledge of the history of Old Masters, she teaches with an emphasis on historical painting techniques. Fluent in French and Italian, Brotherton-Ratcliffe lectures regularly for a wide range of courses and Institutions in London, the United States, and Europe. She is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA)
