Overview

The role of the curator, as well as the meaning of "curating," have evolved significantly over the last few years. This five-day course provides a comprehensive overview of multi-faceted curatorial practice today. Classroom-based lectures and panel discussions are complemented by workshops and guided visits to museums and leading commercial galleries.

Designed for those with no previous academic or professional experience, this course is suitable for all who seek to further their practical and theoretical understanding of this diverse and dynamic field. Participants often include:

  • Graduates and career-changers
  • Practicing artists
  • Commercial gallerists

In addition to Institute-based lectures, panel discussions and workshops, participants will visit:

  • The Victoria and Albert Museum
  • Tate Modern
  • A leading commercial gallery in the West End

At the end of the course, participants will have:

  • Explored various curatorial approaches in museums, commercial galleries, and pop-up spaces
  • Examined the practical elements of curatorial practice, such as design, installation and media relations
  • Been equipped with a thorough understanding of the various functions of the curator in the international art world today
