NEW YORK: Assistant Systems Administrator



The Assistant Systems Administrator provides quality IT support to all students, faculty, and staff of both the Sotheby’s Institute of Art – New York (SIA-NY) and the Corporate New York office of Cambridge Information Group (CIG). This person supports all IT systems, telephone systems and Audio/Visual equipment throughout SIA-NY and CIG office complex. This position will be responsible for continuously researching and proactively proposing new technological solutions designed to keep pace and/or lead the way in support of SIA-NY educational goals for students, faculty and staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Configures computer hardware/software for CIG/SIA-NY Staff.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests for assistance with office computer and network systems.
  • Troubleshoot all desktop computer hardware/software and peripheral problems within the office and works with CIG IT staff as required for problem resolution.
  • Work with CIG IT staff to resolve any server and network problems.
  • Works closely with IT staff from other SIA sites.
  • Works closely with, and takes technical direction from, the CIG IT staff.
  • Setup new user accounts/email and maintain Exchange 2007 environment.
  • Develop and manage the SharePoint student and staff sites including the SIA Intranet.
  • Manage student and alumni email address and distribution lists.
  • Keeps accurate inventory of hardware and software licenses.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Comprehensive Academic Management System (CAMS) application. Performs duties of CAMS Manager for SIA-NY.
  • Create and run Crystal Reports from CAMS.
  • Manages all audio/video equipment including setup for all lectures, guest presentations, & conference events throughout the Institute (both Lexington Ave & York Ave campuses).
  • Update and/or replace a/v systems as required.
  • Knowledge of academic environments is strongly desired.
  • Support summer and evening classes for Public Programs.
  • Maintains phone and voicemail systems by setting up and adding/removing users & phones (Cisco Unity Messaging).
  • Create accounts and manage all wireless devices and all phone, internet & data contracts.
  • Monitors and verifies system backups.
  • Maintains shared network resources (printers, file shares, etc.)
  • Administers student pay-to-print system (Paper Cut)
Knowledge and Abilities

  • A thorough understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the IT field is required
  • A thorough understanding of SharePoint is required.
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports is desirable.
  • Requires knowledge of PC based Hardware/Software configuration.
  • Ability to install Windows XP workstations and PC based software packages is required.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2007.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to trouble shoot of LAN clients, and user support is required.
  • Knowledge of audio visual systems (projectors, sound systems) is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
  • The performance of this position requires the ability to be present in the workplace.
Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure
  • 4-year college Degree in Computer Science/Related field.
  • 2 years experience in computer desktop/notebook support.
  • Experience in a higher education setting desirable.
  • At least one Microsoft MCP certification in a Windows desktop operating system.
Language Skills
  • Excellent understanding of the English language, oral and written.
Physical Demands
