Practical Guide to Starting an Art Gallery

London: 10 - 14 May, 2010

Participants on this intensive 5-day course received practical training on starting up an art gallery in today’s marketplace. Speakers included Dr Iain Robertson, Head of Art Business Studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London; Georgina Adam, Art Market Editor of The Art Newspaper; Joseph Lampel, Professor of Strategy at Cass Business School, London; Josh Lilley, Founder of Josh Lilley Gallery, London, and Sarah Thelwall, Consultant and Strategist in the Art Market and the Creative Industries.

This course addressed the art market dynamics and the technicalities of establishing a business, including legal, financial and operational aspects, as well as key issues in growing a business.

Lectures and seminars took place each day as well as visits to leading art galleries in London giving participants the chance to build valuable relationships and networks in the art world.
