Why study in Singapore? |
||||||||
An International Centre of Art and Culture Singapore is a vibrant exciting cosmopolitan city bringing together both worlds of East and West, modern and ancient. It is a dynamic international centre, a harmonious blend of cultures, cuisines, arts and architecture. Reflecting this unique environment Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore offers an enriching experience with a truly Asian perspective. Class sizes here are small, allowing intensive, student-focused teaching and close, individual student-teacher exchange. The usual class size is between 20 to 25 students. Studying in Singapore also offers students a high degree of flexibility both of the study mode and the contents of the course chosen. For example Master Degree modules can be taken over an extended period of two years, making it possible to study and work at the same time. To further increase the wider “Asia experience” we present a flexible and extensive travel programme covering destinations such as China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, The Philippines and Indonesia. This affords students the opportunity to experience the Asian art scene at first hand and to make full use of being based in Singapore. The visual arts scene in Singapore has experienced tremendous growth and development in the last two decades. Numerous new commercial art galleries, state-of-the-art public and private museums, art schools, auctioneers and visual arts companies bring together the best Western and Eastern cultures have to offer. Non-profit art spaces like Substation and Sculpture Square have also branched out from traditional 2- and 3-D art forms to embrace multi-disciplinary and new media works.
