There are numerous sources of funding available to potential applicants from across the world. The following information is not exhaustive and applicants are encouraged to visit the recommended websites of funding bodies to check current rules and eligibility. University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) www.usac.unr.edu/financial.php USAC students are eligible for many federal financial aid opportunities including scholarships, loans, grants, and fellowships. Federal law allows study abroad students to receive aid from their home schools while attending study abroad programs sponsored by other institutions. Additionally, some state and private financial aid may also be used for our programs. You may want to research Pell Grants, Gilman Scholarships, Freeman Asia Scholarships, Morgan Stanley Scholarships, student and parent loans, and private scholarships. There are a number of financial aid and scholarship websites; a few to get you started are: www.fafsa.ed.gov and www.fastweb.com. Alternative US loan/grant search sites include: www.accessgroup www.embark.com www.kaplan.com www.petersons.com www.salliemae.com Country-specific awarding bodies Australia The General Sir Monash Awards This scholarship scheme allows Australians to undertake postgraduate study overseas. The Award enables 8 Australians to study for one to three years to complete a PhD or graduate study at any university with worldwide standing. The awards are valued at approximately AUD$50,000 each.The criterion for selection includes aspects related to altruism and leadership ability as well as academic excellence. Nominations close in August for study overseas. For further details see: www.monashawards.org Canada Canadian citizens may apply for loans provided through banks under the Canadian government loan program. Scholarships based on academic excellence are given through the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program: Tel. + 1 800 465-30 13. There are fellowships open to women at the Canadian Federation of University Women: Tel. +1 613 747-81 54. Chile The Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO) offers study loans for Chileans to pursue graduate studies abroad. www.corfo.cl; email: info@corfo.cl; tel. +562 631-84 38. Colombia The private foundation Colfuturo awards scholarships and loans to students pursuing graduate studies abroad. Candidates must be bilingual (e.g. Spanish / English, Spanish / French) to qualify, have at least one year of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree, and be at least 25 years old. India Study Loans section of Academics India: www.academics-india.com Mexico Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia provides loans to Mexican students studying abroad. Singapore The National Arts Council in Singapore offers financial aid, please see: www.nac.gov.sg Sweden Details of scholarships can be obtained at The Swedish Institute. For more information: P.O. Box 7434, S-10391 Stockholm. Loans can also be obtained from the Centrala Studiestodsnamnden at Sundsvall. Arts and Humanities Research Board for UK students The Arts and Humanities Research Board supports research within a huge subject domain from traditional humanities subjects, such as history, modern languages and English literature, to the creative and performing arts. The AHRB funds research and postgraduate study within the UK's higher education institutions and provides funding for museums, galleries and collections that are based in, or attached to, higher education institutions in England. www.ahrb.ac.uk Chevening Scholarships These scholarships, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and administered by the British Council, are prestigious awards which enable overseas students to study in the United Kingdom. Scholarships are offered in over 150 countries and enable talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with the UK and gain skills which will benefit their countries. The Chevening programme currently provides around 2,300 new scholarships each year for postgraduate studies or research at UK Institutions of Higher Education. www.chevening.com Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for one academic year of study in another country. This award is intended to help cover round-trip transportation,tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies up to US$25,000 or its equivalent. Academic-Year Scholarships are the most common type of scholarship offered. Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for two years of degree-oriented study in another country. A flat grant of US$12,500 or its equivalent is provided per year to be applied toward the costs of a degree program. www.rotary.org Overseas Research Scheme scholarships ORSAS scholarships are awarded annually, on a competitive basis, to international postgraduate students of outstanding merit and research potential. It is administered by Universities in the UK on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). ORSAS scholarships offer international students the opportunity to carry out a broad range of research at well-established UK academic institutions of worldwide recognition. The awards provide funding to pay the difference (subject to a pre-determined limit) between the international student fees and the home/EU student fees charged by the academic institution which the student attends/will be attending. Awards do not cover maintenance or travel expenses. ORSAS awards cannot be held concurrently with a fully-funded scholarship such as a Marshall Scholarship or one held under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. Apart from these restrictions, any other scholarship/award can be held concurrently with an ORSAS award providing it does not cover the same area of funding (i.e. the difference between the international fees and the home fees).
