| Semester Course: Styles in Art - Foundation in Western Art |
Styles in Art is an intensive introduction to the history of Western art for those with little or no background in the subject. Students begin their studies with Egyptian antiquities in the British Museum, and conclude with contemporary art at Tate Modern. The course covers painting, sculpture, architecture, decorative art and the development of the art market. Additionally, it examines techniques and materials, patronage and the display of collections, religious and political contexts for stylistic development, and issues of quality and value related to art objects. Tutors augment lectures and seminars with focused, object-based teaching in London’s museums, galleries and historic collections. A study trip abroad to a European city is normally offered to complement the course’s regular excursions. Course dates
1 September - 12 December 2008
£6,900
