Summer courses are developed with the art market in mind - they reflect current trends and areas of interest. Enrollment is open to college students, professionals in the field, experts-in-training and career-changers. There are no formal entry requirements for the Summer Study courses. Courses are led by faculty from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, international experts and practitioners in the field. Intensive 2-Week Courses, starting 6 July, 2010 Students from around the world come to Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York to learn about the international art world, and to take advantage of all the resources this exciting city has to offer. New York is home to the world's largest concentration of art galleries, auction houses, museums, foundations, art publications, and other visual-arts organizations. The city is the single most important hub of the global art market. These lecture and discussion courses focus on specific concepts and trends in the international art world. They are designed to be taken as individual classes or in conjunction with 4-week intensives, where schedules permit. Intensive 2-week courses are not available for credit. Intensive 4-Week Courses : 6 - 29 July, 2010 These in-depth 4-week courses allow students to develop professional expertise, critical thinking skills, and enhanced knowledge of art and the international art market. They offer interesting and compelling insights into the art world and include lectures and seminars led by Sotheby’s Institute of Art faculty, international experts and leading practitioners in the field. These courses creatively combine academic study with the possibility of site visits and hands-on instruction. International students can complete all of our summer programs while visiting the U.S. on a tourist visa. Academic Credits: All courses are offered on a non-credit basis. Students who wish to take the 4-week intensive courses for credit should inquire about requirements from their home institution. It is advisable to seek approval prior to taking the course as credit acceptance is at the discretion of individual institutions. Classes meet daily Monday-Thursday, in either the morning or the afternoon. Monday and Wednesday classes are primarily reserved for classroom lectures, and Tuesday and Thursday classes provide a combination of lectures and visits to galleries, private collections etc. Fridays are reserved for additional seminars and field trips. For students who have received approval to take the course for credit, some seminars and field trips are mandatory, and there may be an additional exam or written assignments due at the end of the course. Academic Credits: The granting of transfer credit from any institution is always at the discretion of the “home” school and students should request approval in advance.
