| Fashion Photography |

This course will examine the history of fashion photography from the 1920’s to the present. It will trace the development of fashion photography in relation to contemporary photographic styles and techniques, fashion, art and culture. The course will explore the role of fashion magazines in shaping the imagery of fashion and contemporary ideals of beauty. We will study such seminal figures as Edward Steichen, Horst P. Horst, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, William Klein and Helmut Newton. Throughout the course we will evaluate the increased inclusion of fashion photography in museums, galleries and auction houses in 2009 and its rise in the market.
