Publishing and Publications

Publications in the visual arts---including brochures, wall texts, catalogue entries, scholarly journals, exhibition and auction catalogues, and education materials---have very specific needs that differ substantially from general trade books.

This course will provide a thorough understanding of the role of the museum and professional publications and will discuss the crucial role publications have across all areas of practice: education, scholarship, maintaining an accurate historical record, engaging in debates, fundraising, committee building, etc. The course concludes with a candid discussion of editorial career paths.
