There are numerous sources of funding available to potential applicants from across the world. The following information is not exhaustive and applicants are encouraged to visit the recommended websites of funding bodies. Fulbright Awards These awards are available to US citizens with a minimum of 3.5 GPA in their Bachelors degree. Details and application forms are available on www.iie.org/fulbright
http://usac.unr.edu/financial.php USAC students are eligible for many federal financial aid opportunities including scholarships, loans, grants, and fellowships. Federal law allows study abroad students to receive aid from their home schools while attending study abroad programmes sponsored by other institutions. Additionally, some state and private financial aid may also be used for our programmes. You may want to research Pell Grants, Gilman Scholarships, Freeman Asia Scholarships, Morgan Stanley Scholarships, student and parent loans, and private scholarships. There are a number of financial aid and scholarship websites; a few to get you started are: www.fafsa.ed.gov and www.fastweb.com. Alternative US loan/grant search sites include:www.accessgroup.or www.embark.com www.kaplan.com www.petersons.com www.salliemae.co Country-specific awarding bodies The General Sir Monash Awards. This scholarship scheme allows Australians to undertake postgraduate study overseas. The Award enables 8 Australians to study for one to three years to complete a PhD or graduate study at any university with worldwide standing. The awards are valued at approximately AUD$50,000 each.The criterion for selection includes aspects related to altruism and leadership ability as well as academic excellence. Nominations close in August for study overseas. For further details see: www.monashawards.org Canadian citizens may apply for loans provided through banks under the Canadian government loan programme. Scholarships based on academic excellence are given through the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Programme: Tel. + 1 800 465-30 13. There are fellowships open to women at the Canadian Federation of University Women: Tel. +1 613 747-81 54.
The private foundation Colfuturo awards scholarships and loans to students pursuing graduate studies abroad. Candidates must be bilingual (e.g. Spanish / English, Spanish / French) to qualify, have at least one year of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree, and be at least 25 years old. Details of scholarships can be obtained at The Swedish Institute. For more information: P.O. Box 7434, S-10391 Stockholm. Loans can also be obtained from the Centrala Studiestodsnamnden at Sundsvall. Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for one academic year of study in another country. This award is intended to help cover round-trip transportation,tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies up to US$25,000 or its equivalent. Academic-Year Scholarships are the most common type of scholarship offered. Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for two years of degree-oriented study in another country. A flat grant of US$12,500 or its equivalent is provided per year to be applied toward the costs of a degree program.
