London Faculty

Dr. Megan Aldrich

MA Fine and Decorative Art, London - Senior Fellow in object-based studies; Senior Lecturer in the history of furniture, London.
During the past academic year in Megan’s new post, since May 2014, she has joined the Editorial Panel of the Decorative Art Society, founded a website, the Decorative Art and Design Group (DADG) and participated in a conference in Worlitz, Saxony, a World Heritage site where she published a paper on English antiquarian design in the conference proceedings. She has also been invited to contribute a talk and write an article on the architecture and interiors of Lancelot (‘Capability’) Brown at Burghley House in an ICOMOS (World Heritage body) conference next year in Bath, England.

Dr. David Bellingham

Programme Director, MAAB, London
David has been a judge on two Artist Prizes in London; the first was at the London Art Fair, and the second is the Ashurst Art Prize. Both prizes are for exciting emerging artists, and the Ashurst Prize is particularly novel because in the build-up to the prize all entrants are invited to educational events on marketing and pricing their art. David did a talk to the artists from the Ashurst Prize on how contemporary art is given a financial value. He is currently completing an introductory book on the art market (due 2016).

Antonia Gatward Cevizli

Foundations of Western Art/Art and Business, London
Antonia is currently on maternity leave, having had a baby boy James Yusuf. She continues to research and publish articles on cultural exchange between Italy and the Islamic world during the Renaissance.

Dr. Lis Darby

Programme Director, MACD, London
Materials and Methods, Markets and Mediation: Perspectives on 20th Century and Contemporary Design, edited by Lis Darby and Christine Lalumia, is the second volume in a series which celebrates the contribution made by students in the MA in Contemporary Design to the discipline of design history. It comprises six essays based on outstanding dissertations from the programme which, in different ways, explore the themes of materials, methods, markets and mediation: Phyllis Barron’s and Dorothy Larcher’s use of linoleum for textile printing; the use of rough and raw materials and found objects in contemporary Israeli jewellery; the 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost furniture at MoMA; the work of Studio Alchimia in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s; the contribution of women to the design of post-war appliances in post-war America; and Tejo Remy ‘s chest of drawers You Can’t Lay Down Your Memories (1991) is used as a case study through which to analyse the market and mediation of contemporary design. Collectively, these essays indicate both the breadth of the MA in Contemporary Design and the specialised research inherent in the dissertation process.

Dr Juliet Hacking

MAP, London
Juliet has recently completed writing Lives of the Great Photographers, a book of biographical essays that will be published by Thames & Hudson in September 2015. She is now researching for a new book project, for the Lund Humphries/SIA series of handbooks, called Photography & the Art Market. She is also working on two conference papers, one on the photographically illustrated press in Britain 1891-1914 (University of Lincoln, June 2015) and about Julia Margaret Cameron’s figurations of colonialism and of social class in her photography (Victoria & Albert Museum, January 2016).


New York Faculty

Morgan Falconer

MACA, New York
Morgan Falconer has just published a major survey of painting after 1945 entitled Painting Beyond Pollock (Phaidon). He has also contributed an essay to the exhibition catalog of Ellen Altfest’s current show at the Milton Keynes Gallery in the U.K.

Tim Goossens

Curating Contemporary Art, New York
Tim was recently profiled in Interview Magazine regarding a recent video exhibition he curated in Lower Manhattan. The exhibition will travel to the Museum of Sound and Image, Sao Paulo this summer. In October 2015, he will be a co-curator of Aurora Festival in Dallas, Texas, a large-scale public art event.

Kibum Kim

MACA, New York
Kibum is a co-founder and co-director of the NEWD Art Show which will take place June 6-7 concurrently with Bushwick Open Studios. In its second year, NEWD is an art fair based in Bushwick that showcases alternative programs like artist-run spaces, project spaces, and nonprofits doing great curatorial work with emerging artists. An artist-centric fair, NEWD will host talks about artist economics in today's art market and offer negotiated resale rights as an option for sales.

Kathleen Madden

MACA, New York
Kathleen is editing the Performa 13 book, Look Who's Talking with RoseLee Goldberg as the lead author and over fifty other contributors writing about over 100 events that took place during the most recent performance art biennial. The book is co-published by Performa and Gregory R. Miller & Co., with distribution by D.A.P. and it will be available in June. Additionally she curated an exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey at the end of last year focused on nine emerging artists active on the Lower East Side of New York and entitled, The Built Environment. She continues to teach a Barnard College of Columbia University Alumnae Relations course entitled, The Barnard Conversations in Contemporary Art, about which there was an article written for the Barnard magazine, to which she has a forthcoming article about Sarah Charlesworth due out in the next edition.

Tom McNulty

MAAB, New York
In 2014, Tom published the 2nd edition of the Art Market Research: A Guide to Methods and Sources. (Jefferson, N.C.: McFarland) and was a Co-Presenter, with Clayton Kirking, Chief Librarian for Art Information, New York Public Library, for the Appraisal Research Workshop: An All-Day Program at the Frick Art Reference Library and New York University.
In March 2015, Tom presented at the Annual Conference of the International Society of Appraisers, “Assets 2015 Philadelphia. Title: Researching the Provenance of Fine and Decorative Art Objects. “

Elizabeth A. Pergam

Elizabeth’s essay on the illustrated auction catalogue (from the eighteenth through the early twentieth centuries) was published in the Journal of Art Historiography this past December: https://arthistoriography.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/pergam.pdf. It explores the reason behind the slow and sporadic adoption of reproductive technologies for publications that were initially intended as ephemeral guides to public sales of art. Drawing in the 21st Century: The Politics and Poetics of Contemporary Practice (Ashgate, late summer 2015) is an anthology of ten essays, including one by Kathy Battista, exploring the increasing importance and transformation of the medium. The volume, which Elizabeth edited and contributed two essays, took as its starting point a session she chaired for the College Art Association in 2011.

Judith Prowda

MAAB, New York
Last January, Judith participated in the SIA Art Law Education program in LA. Also in January, she moderated a panel for the Copyright Society on the Artist’s Resale Right, held at the Princeton Club. In March, she lectured on Art Law and Copyright for the Practicing Law Institute, Advanced Copyright Law Annual Review. More recently, this spring Judith organized and moderated the panel Art Advising 2.0: Vertigo & Accountability, a collaboration amongst Stropheus Art Law, Association of Professional Art Advisors and Sotheby’s Institute of Art, which was held at SIA on April 1st. In addition, she guest lectured at Columbia and Sarah Lawrence College. In her role as Chair of the Fine Arts Committee of the New York State Bar Association Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Section, Judith organized and participated on a panel on Legal Basics for Visual Artists and Other Creatives last September. This panel was in collaboration with the Brooklyn Arts Council. She is planning a similar panel in June to coincide with Bushwick Open Studios. In May, Judith will be speaking on a panel at the NeueHouse on the Role of Science in Authenticating Art.
