| Danny Lane Studio, London |

|
Students on the MA in Contemporary Design spent a day at Danny Lane's studio where he explained his approach to designing in glass.
Contact with practitioners such as Danny provide students on the course with an invaluable understanding of the design process, materials and techniques but also an insight into differing approaches. Danny Lane has been working in London as a glass artist since the 1980s when he was associated with Ron Arad and others who reacted against the perceived blandness of design at the time and sought to create more expressive pieces through the manipulation of materials. Since then, Danny has achieved an international status for his glass; his work has attracted a wide clientele and examples are to be found in museums and collections worldwide. Other visits have included the studio of Peter Layton, another internationally-renowned glass artist, where the students watched an elaborate multi-coloured vase being made.
