Overview

Led by Sotheby’s Institute faculty, auction house specialists and legal practitioners, this course offers an overview of buying and selling art at auction. Participants engage with the process of how art works are evaluated and what criteria determines estimates and then proceed to address the technicalities of the buying and selling procedure. Practical issues such as bidding, consignment, insurance and storage are considered alongside legal concerns such as inheritance tax. The course includes a visit to the Sotheby's auction house.
