He is also a Consultant Tutor and Artlaw Unit Leader for the MA Art Business course at Sotheby's Institute of Art - London, and Visiting Professor in Artlaw at the University of the Arts London.
His specialist research and teaching areas include: international legal frameworks for art business; international art contracts; international auction practices; commercial and non-commercial museum and gallery management; and international intellectual property rights and their management.
Henry does this work around the edges of his practice as an art business consultant, through The Henry Lydiate Partnership, whose clients include artists, artist's estates, collectors, art market professionals, commercial and non-commercial galleries and museums, and auction houses.
He is a non-executive Director of the Design and Artists Copyright Society and Acme Artists Studio and Housing Association, Chairman of Ixia, the public art think-tank, and an Editorial Board member of the Creative Industries Journal.
Following a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, Henry qualified as barrister/trial lawyer at the English Bar, and has specialised in the law relating to the creative arts for over 30 years.
He conducted a two-year research project into the legal needs of visual artists in the UK in the 1970s, which led to his establishing a legal advice, education and training service, Artlaw Services, of which he was Chairman and a pro bono legal adviser and trainer/educator until 1984.
He writes a regular Artlaw column published in Art Monthly since its first issue in 1976, and his collected articles are published as the Artlaw Archive by Artquest, for which he leads the team of consultants that provides free on-line advice service: www.artquest.org.uk/artlaw.
