Graduates of Sotheby’s Institute use their education in a variety of careers in the international art world. Many go into the auction business, become curators, art advisors, gallery owners, museum executives and more. Our alumni are working all over the world. Sotheby’s Institute of Art’s intensive art history courses and insider’s access to the world of contemporary art gave me the extensive scholarly background and the professional savvy I needed to find a full-time job directly upon finishing coursework. I am so grateful for the experience I had at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and can think of no better or quicker way to feel entirely prepared for the professional art world. Kristin Nelson MA Contemporary Art, New York , 2008 Each day of the American Fine and Decorative Art course was unique; with lectures, gallery visits, handling sessions and house tours, all led by top professionals in each field. I was exposed to so many diverse areas and career choices within my field, it seemed as if my opportunities upon graduation were infinite. Christa Pirl MA American Fine and Decorative Art, New York, 2008 Coming from a business/management background, the one year Master's Degree programme in Contemporary Art at Sotheby's Institute of Art—London was exactly what I needed. The programme enabled me to speak more confidently about art, to put works of art into their historical context and to build a professional network that has proven invaluable to me in my current role. Wolfram Schnelle MA Contemporary Art, London, 2005 I picked Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore because of its prestigious ties to the auction house and its strategic location in Asia. This means convenient field trips to vibrant arts enclaves in places like China and India. Lim Hye Min MA Art Business, Singapore, 2007 The Master’s in Art Business gave me the knowledge, skills and focus to move from the legal profession to the international art market. A key element of the programme was my exposure to leading art market professionals and an international group of peers, which have provided me with a truly invaluable network. Josh Pullan MA Art Business, London, 2006 The MA in Fine and Decorative Art is really quite the finest available. Unlike the more traditional art studies, it has a more intense practical approach – much needed in understanding art. Jacob Khokhlov MA Fine & Decorative Art, London, 2005 Having studied in London, I can say the experience is worth it, even weighing up the expenses in London. London is the gateway to emerging markets and to the States. The personal challenge is unmatched and I feel I really grew as a person. Jen Leutner MA Contemporary Art, London, 2007 I made the decision to study on the MA in Photography just after completing my undergraduate studies and completing the MA has allowed me to realise my career aspirations as quickly as possible. The tutors and entire Sotheby’s Institute team do all they can to help students achieve academic as well as professional success. The exposure they provided to the London art scene, both institutional and commercial, was invaluable. Sarah Jamison MA Photography, London, 2007 The MA in East Asian Art does an excellent job of both preparing one to write at a high academic level, and gain a level of visual knowledge and connoisseurship to prepare for many careers in the field. John McCann MA East Asian Art, London, 2006 The Sotheby’s Institute of Art program is unique in that it offers an academic program in a business environment allowing students to experience facets of the art world that might otherwise remain a mystery. Carly K. Krum MA American Fine & Decorative Art, New York, 2003 |
