NEW GUIDE TO THE BUSINESS OF ART:

Sotheby’s Institute of Art reveals the contemporary issues that underpin today’s art market.

This new book reveals the realities behind the trade of fine art and antiques throughout the world and combines a pragmatic view of the art market with a philosophical discussion on the aesthetic and financial value of art.

Drawing on their vast experience of analysing trends and issues in the art market and teaching students of the Master’s Degree in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art - London, The Art Business is a new book edited by Dr. Iain Robertson, Head of Art Business Studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art - London and Dr. Derrick Chong, Consultant Lecturer at Sotheby’s Institute of Art - London.

The Art Business is an essential guide to anyone who is involved in the art market today as a collector, dealer, museum curator, or student with an interest in pursuing a career in the international art world. It is a sequel to Understanding International Art Markets and Management by Iain Robertson published by Routledge in 2005. Topics covered ranged from the aesthetic and financial value in contemporary art to the new markets of China and India making it a very up-to-date guide to today’s art world.

The Art Business, published by Routledge, grew out of a discussion between the co-editors about producing a series of essays for Sotheby’s Institute of Art - London’s leading Master of Art’s Degree in Art Business which has been taught for over ten years. Whilst the book provides a solid foundation for students of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the focus was broadened to make the collection of essays more accessible to a wider readership in art business.
