Dr. Jonathan Clancy
Programme Director, American Fine & Decorative Art, New York

Jonathan Clancy

A message from Jonathan Clancy:

As many of you know, with Carrie Barratt’s promotion to Associate Director for Collections and Administration at the Metropolitan, I have assumed the role of Programme Director in American Fine & Decorative Art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Among this year’s new initiatives is a cataloging project with the Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, a site you all know well. We have developed a seminar which allows students to collaborate and work together to hone their research skills while working with paintings by Gilbert Stuart, Robert Feke, John Smibert, just to name a few. Upon completion of this project, the library has committed to publish a catalog featuring our work, as well as to make research available online. Rather than simply focusing on case studies, the American Fine & Decorative Art Programme is committed to intensive research projects that provides a practical application for future endeavors, and contributes to the professional literature.
