Contemporary Art: Exploring the New
This course provides an awareness of recent developments in contemporary art (1970 to present) and an understanding of the social contexts responsible for them. Through seminar-style discussions of a variety of course materials, the currents shaping the contemporary art field will be identified, and students will develop a critical appreciation of some of the issues and concerns at play. The primary goal of this course is to navigate the complex map that comprises art production today, and ultimately, question the function and place of art in this fast-changing world from a more informed perspective.
