Summer Study in New York
Fundamentals of Art Business
This course offers a broad and engaging introduction to business principles as applied to the arts. Beginning with the economic world around us, participants review basic business models and use them as a starting point to explore the business structures of the art world: the artist’s studio, the gallery, the museum, the auction house. Through case studies, field trips, and lectures, students gain an overview of the principles of finance, economics, and budgeting, and learn specific tools for analyzing—and creating—business structures.
