Orientation for New MA Students 2011
Prior to the start of the new academic year, Sotheby's Institute of Art - London held a two-day orientation for all new MA students at the University of London on 1 - 2 September, 2011.
New students were welcomed by Professor Jos-Hackforth-Jones, Director, Sotheby's Institute of Art - London, and followed by Programme Directors of each MA who spoke about the Institute's object-based approach to teaching and the different approaches taken. Dr. Megan Aldrich, Academic Director, introduced new students to Sotheby's Institute of Art's academic culture. In the afternoon, James Stourton, Chairman, Sotheby's UK, gave an introduction to Sotheby’s auction house. Other subjects covered included IT, library, registry, careers, student representatives and security.
Friday's programme included Georgina Adam, Editor in Chief of The Art Newspaper, who gave an introduction to the art market and student group visits to London's museums and galleries led by full-time faculty.
On the evening of 1 September, students were invited to a reception at Sotheby's in New Bond Street where they had the opportunity to meet auction house experts and staff.
