History of Art, Part III: Pre-War to Pop

Spanning the turbulent middle years of the twentieth century, from the Surrealist paintings of Dali and the Cubist masterpieces of Picasso to the Abstract Expressionism of Pollock and Rothko, this course will examine the ways in which art was transformed in the prelude to and aftermath of the Second World War.

Over six weeks, participants will learn to interpret and understand paintings and sculpture in the context of a period which saw the birth of what many people now regard as quintessentially ‘modern’ art.
