This intensive five-day course provides a basis for the analysis and interpretation of Western Art from the Renaissance until 1900.
Chronologically organised and highlighting key works, painters and movements, lectures will be complemented by special visits to London galleries and museums. The course provides a foundation in the history and developments of art and is designed as a refresher for art professionals and those who are interested in art interpretation.

Dr. Christina Bradstreet is a specialist in nineteenth-century art. She is currently writing a monograph entitled
Art and Perfume about the role of smell in nineteenth-century art and aesthetics, following a Postdoctoral fellowship at the Paul Mellon Centre. She has lectured on Victorian art at Birkbeck College, Royal Holloway College and the Courtauld Institute of Art.
Dr James Hicks
Dr. James Hicks is a London-based art historian. Educated at James Madison University, Goldsmiths, and the University of Hertfordshire, his specialisation is in 19th century British art history, Orientalism and Critical Theory. He lectures at the Tate galleries and the National Portrait Gallery. In addition, James also teaches at Pepperdine and James Madison universities for their London programmes.
Jennifer Scott
Jennifer Scott is Curator of Paintings at the Royal Collection and is the co-author of Bruegel to Rubens: Masters of Flemish Painting (2007) and Dutch Landscapes (2010). She is also the author of the recent book,
The Royal Portrait: Image and Impact (Royal Collection), 2010.
