NEW YORK: PR and Social Media Manager About the Position:
Sotheby’s Institute of Art is seeking a PR and Social Media Manager for its New York and London campuses. This new role will report directly to the Director of Global Marketing and will work with the Institute’s Directors and marketing team to define and support the overall public relations strategy. Though the role is based in New York it will be a global position as the nature of media and social media has become international in scope. SIA is looking for a professional with 4-6 years experience in PR, online marketing or media. All relative industries will be considered with a particular preference for an art, higher education, media or luxury background. Candidate should have experience in, and a proven track record of, leveraging digital and social media platforms, print and other media for promotional purposes. Candidate should have a global, national and local sense of PR and Social Media within the context of the current media landscape. This person will serve as a key liaison for all reactive media requests and proactive social media initiatives working with staff in both New York and London. They will help coordinate development and implementation of internal and external public relations strategies with the goal of gaining recognition in the market, promoting our staff and services, supporting our goal of increasing prestige and awareness and, ultimately, helping The Institute establish and achieve its enrollment and reputational targets.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - PR: including a significant interaction with the digital possibilities in education and art with an emphasis on social media, print and digital optimization
- Monitoring relevant media for The Institute, Institute staff and teaching faculty
- Maintaining a broad-based understanding of the international art world and art educational landscape preferred
- Managing Facebook, Twitter, blog feeds (etc…) and suggesting/executing relevant content
- Tracking and interpreting trends and events in terms of publicity and digital media
- Helping establish and influence messaging dynamics across a broad spectrum of academic programs and identifying and managing key and relevant outlets for our message
- Reporting and tracking relevant to marketing and The Institute’s overall promotional needs
Position Requirements: - Degree in communications, marketing, PR or other related field. 4+ years strong public relations experience, preferably in a relevant industry, particularly education, art or luxury
- Broad experience in print and online media relations, special events
- Extensive knowledge of various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Wordpress; understanding of social media trends and innovations
- Knowledge and interest in the international art market and art educational landscape preferred
- Success representing public relations across several different programs and product offerings; proven track record of effectively managing digital campaigns
- Demonstrated analytical and conceptual problem-solving ability. Oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide array of groups in academic, marketing and professional settings
- Full understanding of the purchase clock (pre purchase, purchase, and post) and how that effects marketing decisions in a multi-faceted education environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML coding and design aesthetic is a plus
- Willing to travel if and as needed

Position Purpose:
This role has dual responsibilities that include a primary responsibility for recruiting and a secondary responsibility for day-to-day support of admissions activities and will require the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Executes recruitment plan by visiting university school campuses to expand the awareness of Sotheby’s Institute of Art programs and increase enrollments. Researches appropriate opportunities for recruiting at universities throughout the US. Develops relationships with faculty and career services, departments/officers, and educates them about programs.
The position will support enrollment services, and support with the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations by processing applications, data entry and speaking with prospects on the phone and in person, as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned. Approximately 70-80% of the year this position requires travel and 25-30% in the office working with the Director and Assistant Director.
Recruiting - Establish and build relationships with a wide range of art history faculty, and career services departments, alumni and maintain relationships.
- Assist in developing recruitment plan in coordination with the Director of Global Enrollment Management
- Execute recruitment plan through campus visits, on-site events and presentations to students
- Support director in planning and implementing local and global Open Day events
- Proactively follow-up with event attendees to convert inquires to applicants
- Meet with prospective applicants and educates prospects about all programs
- Liaise with alumni relations and career services and provide support as needed
- Assist in budget planning and operate recruiting functions within budget
- Prepare reports and analysis as needed
Admissions - Field inquiries from prospects in person, email and phone about program offerings
- Enter prospect data into student information system
- Prepare applicant folders and collates student records
- Correspond with applicants about required credentials
- Schedule applicant interviews with program directors and Director of Global Enrollment Management
- Prepare all student correspondence, including inquiry packages, acceptance packages, and denial letters

Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure - BA is required, Masters in a related discipline preferred

The successful candidate will be an accomplished professional who will support students’ individual, self-managed job-search campaigns with programming and advisory services; s/he will facilitate their access to the Institute’s growing professional networks, assist alumni with their career advancement and hiring needs and will provide leadership in employer relations on behalf of the Institute.
Responsibilities: - Work collaboratively with academic program heads, faculty, alumni affairs, admissions and marketing departments to provide full service to students and alumni
- Plan and implement career programs and events
- Provide group and individual training and advising sessions; develop appropriate training materials, including online resources
- Enhance the Institute’s portfolio of key employer relationships with a focus on top tier corporate, institutional and individual employment prospects; cultivate effective partnerships with key employers in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors
- Serve as liaison to Human Resources Department at Sotheby’s Auction House, the Institute’s close affiliate and a major employer of graduates
- Develop educational and marketing materials that will strengthen, sustain and broaden employer relationships
- Manage the College Central employment data base
- Track student and alumni outcomes, analyze data and generate evaluative reports
- Keep current with employment trends and patterns, research and opportunities in the field
- Liaise with counterpart Career Services Director at London campus to provide assistance to students returning/moving to the US
- Development of a structured internship program is an additional goal
